Our customer is a brand urban infrastructure integrated service provider, they offer bundied solutions to the city’s functional upgrading, from planning and consulting, design to investment and operation. The design engineer came to us, talk about the difficulties they faced. In the construction industry, most of the single part is in straight shape and less of curved surface. However, the project now was to build hundreds smart concrete components with curved surfaces and electrical function. This would be a great challenge to make the parts with their traditional process, and they came to us to find if it would possible to get the parts with our rapid manufacturing.
To better understand the requirement and concrete building process, our engineers came to the our customer’s work site. After looked around the work site and talk about the details with our client, we realized that this project would be a whole new challenge with us, to be honest, this was the first time we deal with the concrete material, as we usually make the plastic and metal parts. This project beyond the common rapid prototypes. And we decided to try with our client.
We proposed our 3D printing and silicon mold combined with CNC process to make the Mold to build the concrete components, as the silicon can exactly copy the surface details and the CNC material can strengthen the whole mold. We started with design, we created the final part and mold with CAD. And we 3D printed the part and mold times to analyze and improve our design. Next, we made the silicon mold with the final design. Fortunately, thanks to well prepared in former stage, our design and mold got through the production test. Our customer immediately told us to kick off the other molds production to catch up with the project schedule.
With the effort beside us and our client, our client successfully delivered the project, and the result greatly exceeded our customer’s expectation. The project is just one of the innovation attempts of the construction technologies from our client, and we are proud that we can take participate in this project.
